About Ortahisar

Ortahisar is an ancient Cappadocian town, famous for its rock warehouses carved into the valley slopes—known as the citrus depot of Southern Anatolia—and for its castle, which is the region's largest fairy chimney. The current settlement dates back to the early 11th century.

During the migration from Central Asia to Anatolia, Hibe Dede and his 8 siblings, Uzbek Turks from Khorasan, built 9 separate houses around the Nevsehir Ortahisar Castle. These nine families were the first settlers and founders of the current town of Ortahisar.
